QUIT DRINKING

Well, making that decision is a huge step in a positive direction. Sometimes all you need is that one simple decision and the rest becomes history, but when it comes to quitting drinking it isn’t always that easy.
If you are anything like me the idea to quit drinking has occurred to you many times, but following through was always the challenge. If you want to hear more of my story go to this About Me page.
There are many helpful tips and resources available to help you cope with the challenges that will inevitably come up.
One of the biggest questions that will be on your mind is how do I quit drinking? Well you came to the right site, as not only do I share how I quit, and some articles on how to quit, but also I have reviewed some at home “quit drinking” courses.
Quit Drinking Tips
The first thing you need to do is acknowledge that you do have a problem with alcohol. Alcohol is a drug like any other and a dependency is built upon it due to how it makes you feel, or in some cases, how it DOESN’T make you feel. Once you accept this and identify the source(s) of your dependency on alcohol you can really start to recover.
The second thing you need to recognize is your triggers. Triggers such as stress or depression may require the help of a support group or a professional healthcare provider to understand and resolve. Group such as Alcoholics Anonymous, which is the most popular program, provides an environment where recovering alcohol abusers can share their stories with each other. There are also outpatient programs offered by some hospitals, as well as various telephone hotlines and online sites to quit drinking. Then there are the programs that I have reviewed on this website, which are programs that can be done at home.
Quit Drinking Symptoms

You may be wondering what are some of the effects you may experience when you quit drinking alcohol.
At first, there may be symptoms of withdrawal, just like any other drug. One of the most reported symptoms may be anxiety. Losing the use of alcohol as a crutch when dealing with particular problems in your life, and having to deal with those issues in a sober state may leave you feeling a little overwhelmed at times.
Developing a system of addressing the problems at hand, as well as having the support of friends and family or even a group, may help you with the transition.
A positive symptom when you quit drinking is you may lose weight. Most alcoholic beverages are high in calories themselves, and combining these, as well as the calories from other ingredients in your favorite cocktail, just ups that figure even more. Alcohol also causes you to be dehydrated and slow down metabolic processes in the body which need the presence of water in order to take place.
What are some of the other benefits you can enjoy when you quit drinking?
Well, no hangovers, for one. You won’t be waking up in a daze, trying to recall the hours before, with the headache from hell.
People who have quit drinking have reported feeling lighter, more relaxed and happier. They have more perspective and enjoy better relationships with the people around them. Better interactions with the people around you can greatly improve your quality of life.
You also might have time for that hobby you always wanted to start now that your free time is not completely filled with drinking and drinking activities. Whether it is long walks, traveling, or taking up a new sport or instrument, you may get great pleasure from these new activities and find that now that you actually follow through with lessons and practice you improve and enjoy it more.
The point is, you’ll be out there and living your life, without watching it passes by through the haze of alcohol.
There are many benefits to getting yourself to quit drinking and also many tips and helpful hints to help you get there. By no means is it an easy road, but surrounding yourself with a strong support system can be helpful and can also be the difference between success and failure. The most important tip is to take it day by day, one step at a time. Go at a pace that suits you and no one else. And if you want help in the process check out the programs I reviewed on the home page, for example my highest reviewed one even has a great free video series you can watch.
I hope this helps as you head down the quit drinking path!
Best of luck! Chris
